Tennessee Coulthards Research project Key Findings in Green Week 1 Journal As this was our first week, we just started off by learning about the research project, what is involved and how the project is marked. I then got the opportunity to brainstorm some topics. I normally have lots of trouble making decisions but then Hien gave me the idea about creating something. I decided I would look at that as it sounded like it could make my project more interesting and give me something fun to work towards. Once I thought about it I decided to combine it with one of my favourite sports, netball. I then had netball and that is how I got the idea to create an item to wear to netball. Over the weekend I created a draft of my proposal and compiled a list of guiding questions to help me stay on task. By creating my proposal it helped give me a clear idea of what I will need to do while completing it, I also defined my topic. My topic I am now doing is, “Designing and creating a top that is suitable to wear at netball training”.
Holiday Plan While writing my proposal I made a timeline to help me organise my time better. During the holidays I plan to look at netball training plans and what they involve. I also hope to have a draft of a survey for Mr Tengdahl to check when we return next term. The survey will ask about what type of top, which characteristics are preferred like warm, waterproof, breathable, etc. I would also like to have started constructing a list of different materials and their characteristics.
Week 2 Journal In the lesson on Monday I showed some people my proposal to get feedback. I did some constructive feedback to improve my proposal. I then was absent for the Tuesday lesson due to Student voice. I therefore ask other people in the class what we did. Then for homework I started to compile a list of websites as I found them. There are many website I found that could be of some use to my research. The later in the week I wrote my letter which outlined my plan for the holiday and my journal.
In the holidays I did some work on my research project. I wrote note on each of the websites I found. This was to help me remember what websites where good and what each contained. I also did a draft of a survey. The survey only has a couple of questions as the main purpose of my survey is to find out what people wear to netball and why. During the holidays I gather a couple of different netball training plans and looked at what they do to give me an idea as to what people might like in a top.
Week 3 This week I worked on my survey. I worked on making my questions more precise so there can be no confusion for the people who decide to take my survey. I also had to thing about who I will get to fill in my survey as there are a lot of people in the school who don’t play netball and it would take a lot of time to find enough people to fill it in. I came up with a couple of ideas to solve this, I could get people from my netball club to fill it out or the school have a couple of netball team and I could ask them to fill in the survey. I also started to look up what professional suggest people wear to training and if there are health benefits like wear a jacket or jumper could cause someone to overheat. I have also started to look at the design and suggest of different clubs across Adelaide and what they sell and say to wear to training. I also got my propsal draft back and Mr Tengdahl made a pointabout weither it will be for winter or summer. I then changed my survey to ask about this and made to sections one for the winter season and one for the summer season and to see if there are any changes.
Week 4 During the lessons on Monday and Tuesday I continued to gather existing training articles and looking at netball clubs policies as to what they recommended people to wear to training. I also started to compare materials used by the different clubs and companies. I complete the draft of my survey which I will email to Mr Tengdahl to get him to approve it.
Then during the double of Wednesday I had an excursion and came half way though. We watch a lecture about ethical issues. This got me think about the issues around my research. We took notes on the lecture.
The lesson on Friday I watched the start of the lecture and took notes. I then started to write down the ethical issue for my research and how I could address them.
Journal week 5
This week we had been given task to complete, they were to continue to think about the ethical issues surrounding our research. We also had to write about our key findings so far. I also email Mr Tengdahl my survey questions to make sure they were okay. This was also a way to reduce the ethical concerns around the surveying of people.
Tuesday in Research project I printed and started to annotate the different designs of netball training tops. I created a key and highlight the points. I also wrote out notes about each of the designs. I also created a dictionary in which I record the words I do not know the meanings for and then look them up.
During the lesson on Friday I talked about my survey to Mr Tengdahl. He said that my question were fine and ethical. We then discussed the idea of later conducting another survey with the design I come up with to get the feedback from people as which ones they like, would buy and think most practical.
While annotating the designs I found that the most commonly used fabric was polyester. Another finding was that t-shirts were usually v or u neck. I also found that t-shirt designs and sold from specific club there deigns usually have UPF factors.
Journal Week 6
During the lesson on Monday and Tuesday I started to look at the materials that existing top used and research the characteristic of each of the materials. I found that many have a mixture of different materials but one material that appeared in most t-shirts was polyester.
In the lesson on Wednesday we were deconstructing article. I found and article that looked relevant to my research but once I started to deconstruct it I found out that the only relevant it could have to my research was a tableabout the levels of how much people sweat during netball training in both winter and summer. It showed that the levels werre about the same in both winter and summer training.
In the lesson on Wednesday we presented our progress and our key findings so far. I presented to the class and explained about my survey, list of fabrics and annotation of design.
In Fridays lesson I continued to construct a list about the different materials used in existing tops.
Journal week 7
In research we found out that it is due first week next term. I then looked at the research I have done and realised I didn’t have much left to do. I then create a revised time plan for the remainder of the time during the lesson on Monday due to the internet being down.
In the lesson on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday I researched colour wheels and how I can use them to help me pick my Colours. I also have started to distributed my survey and I am starting to get the results back.
Journal Week 8
I got the results from the survey and I am starting to design the top.
After reviewing the income results from my survey I have decide to create a t-shirt for netball training.
Journal week (Week 7) This week during research project I have done a plan for my outcome. By doing the plan I have got a clear idea of how I am going to present and sturcture my outcome. I will be doing a powerpoint and on each slide with be a different aspect of the research that have influence my design. Another reason why doing my outcome is useful is it has highlighted the area that I have finished and the area in which I need to do further defined research.
Journal Week (week 8) This week have written up half of my outcome. I also got my second survey which is about which colour combination and which design approved.
Journal week (Week 9) This week I got people to fill in my survey. I have also collorated all the result from that survey and is starting to make. I also have manged to finished all my outcome I can at this point in time.
